Club History

Solon FC is a non-profit organization that was formed in the spring of 2014.  A group of Solon area parents recognized the gap between recreational soccer ending in 6th grade and high school soccer in 9th grade.  While parents could join travelling teams in Cedar Rapids or Iowa City, they are sometimes prohibitively expensive, both in cost and time commitment, while also limiting the child to focusing on just one activity.

The Solon parents goal with Solon FC was to create an environment that would allow area youth to continue to develop their soccer skills beyond the recreational league experience, but still keeping it affordable and flexible enough to allow participation in other activities.

With these goals in mind, Solon FC was fortunate to have as it's former coaching directors Jeremy McMurrin, the Solon High School Boys Soccer coach, and Raven McMurrin, Mt. Mercy College Womens Soccer coach. Their combined 22 plus years of coaching experience at the High School and Collegiate level provided Solon FC participants an advanced level of coaching and teaching expertise that focuses on skills, teamwork, sportsmanship and fun while providing all players with the environment they need to grow and develop as a soccer player and team member.

Currently Solon FC has over 80 Solon area youth participating across the grades three through eight.  In the spring and fall, we have two practices per week. During the summer, there are optional kickarounds once a week.  In the winter, there are optional indoor opportunities available.

In the Spring of 2015 the Solon Economist wrote up a nice article about Solon FC which can be found here.
